Paper Bags: A Step Towards a Plastic-Free Future
Students and teachers of PTVA’s English medium School, Andheri initiated a project to promote eco-friendly practices by making and distributing paper bags to local vendors. The aim was to reduce plastic usage and encourage sustainable alternatives and the occasion was the World Paper Bag Day on 12th July 2025.
Art teacher Mrs. Ashwini Naravane guided the students and teachers of grades VI and VII in making paper bags from newspapers. The bags were decorated with paper flowers and attractive messages promoting sustainability like “Go Green, Switch to Paper”, “Ditch Plastic, Grab Paper”, etc.
An awareness rally (जाणीव-जागृती प्रभात फेरी) of students was arranged. The students reached out to local vendors, educated them about the benefits of using paper bags and encouraged them to switch from plastic bags. They distributed the bags to the vendors, providing them with a sufficient quantity for their transactions throughout the day and beyond. The vendors accepted the bags very positively, appreciating the initiative and the quality of the bags.
The paper bag making and distribution project was a success. The school is looking forward to continuing this initiative and exploring further opportunities to promote eco-friendly practices.
