An awareness and sensitization session on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was arranged for the teaching and non-teaching staff and PTA members of the Student Protection Committee at PTVA’s English Medium School, Andheri on 20th September 2024.

The facilitator of this session Dr. Chetan Nerkar, a renowned Psychologist at the L&T Healthcare Centre, Andheri (East) emphasized creating safe spaces for students in the educational institutions. The participants were informed about the law, its enforcement, and various measures both administrative and social to protect children. They were enlightened on the legal provisions that teachers are obliged to adhere to under the POCSO Act. The staff was guided on how to recognize signs of abuse, the necessary steps to take once abuse is reported, and how to employ appropriate strategies to prevent abusive actions. The psychological impact of abuse on children and the legal responsibilities of educational institutions and teachers were discussed in the session.

By the end of this workshop, the participants were equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively protect children under their care, ensuring compliance with the POCSO Act and promoting a safer educational environment.
