Drop the Bag, Pick Up a Skill

In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 guidelines to promote experiential learning, PTVA’s English Medium School, Andheri, observed “No Bag Day” on June 30, 2026, for classes I to IV. The initiative aimed to reduce academic stress and encourage hands-on, joyful learning beyond textbooks.
Students attended school without bags or books, participating enthusiastically in a series of creative, skill-based activities. A pottery session emerged as the highlight of the day. Teachers observed improved peer interaction and a significant reduction in anxiety among the students.
The day yielded excellent learning outcomes. Clay modelling and saving-box decoration enhanced kinesthetic skills like hand-eye coordination, financial independence and pride in personal achievements, while play-based activities helped students grasp numeracy skills naturally rather than through rote learning. Additionally, “picture talk” sessions boosted descriptive vocabulary and confidence, while collaborative tasks fostered essential life skills like team building and sharing.
By successfully blending art, mathematics, and language into a stress-free format, “No Bag Day” reaffirmed that children learn best through doing. The school will continue to conduct this initiative on the last working day of every month.
