Lantern Making – PTVA Association

Design: Tulsi Vrindavan

The idea behind an artistic and symbolic “Tulsi Vrindavan” inspired lantern was to blend the elements of spirituality, nature and traditional design particularly focusing on the sacred Tulsi plant and the concept of Vrindavan from the Hindu mythology and the presence of the divine in everyday life.

A lantern inspired by Tulsi Vrindavan was made by a team of teachers of PTVA’s English Medium School, Andheri to evoke the sacredness of the Vrindavan. The lantern showed blooming of Tulsi leaves, representing nature and divinity. The light emanating from the lantern symbolized illumination and dispelling darkness in order to bring spiritual enlightenment while the structure of the lantern mimicked the purity and holiness of the Tulsi plant. A Sanskrit Shloka “अशक्यं प्रकृतेः ऋते जीवनम्।” was written onto the lantern to spread the importance of ‘Conservation of Nature’.
